Changes coming to TV or Not TV — for LA & OC
Greetings, gentle reader…
When I started TV or Not TV — for LA & OC, almost a year ago now, I had high hopes that through word of mouth, plus print and online advertising and spending far more time on social media than I would care to, I would be able to pull in enough paid subscribers to continue producing these newsletters — over 300 so far — at least as a part-time job/side gig. Alas, this has not panned out, and I have fallen far short of the 1000 or more paying customers needed to keep this project afloat as is.
So, beginning next Tuesday, October 1, I will be hitting the pause button on all monthly payments and taking the newsletters/website back into beta mode while I decide which sections I can keep and which ones I will have to let fall by the wayside. The weekly TV column will live on, certainly. But some of the more labor-intensive posts, like the weekly theater, music and movie listings and the monthly museums roundup, may not survive, at least not in their present form.
On the plus side, the pay wall will be down for the months of October and November, which means that whatever content I do publish will be free to all, subscriber and non-subscriber alike (and if you are on the $50/year plan, please reach out to me directly and I will try to figure out refunds). If all goes well, those two month should give me time to sort all of this out and then perhaps re-launch as TV or Not TV 2.0 on or around December 1.
Thanks to all for your patience, support and patronage.
Matt
I love the TV listings, but I don't really use the other stuff. Thanks for keeping the TV listings alive!
Matt,
Totally understand. You took on a lot. I'm not sure we need all the information you offer is necessary. Perhaps just an announcement, the location, and a number or address for information and/or reservations. You also might let folds know where they can get the listings of various events.
Be well. Rest!
Best,
Irene Oppenheim
